It’s apple time! We invite you to join us for a talk by apple expert John Bunker, of Fedco Seeds and Super Chilly Farm. John is Maine’s foremost authority on heirloom apple varieties and the history of Maine apples and orchards. John has been farming in Maine for more than 40 years and has a passion for tracking down heirloom fruit varieties, particularly those originating in Maine. He has established the Maine Heritage Orchard at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) Common Ground in Unity, currently home to 300 historic pears and apples and is the author of “Not Far From the Tree,” a book on the history of apples in Palermo, Maine. John will talk about the history of Maine apples and the challenge of finding and bringing back Maine’s rare heirloom varieties. John is in high demand as a speaker and this is a wonderful opportunity to learn from him directly. If you have your own old apple trees, feel free to bring along fruit for identification.
