Volunteer Opportunities

Give of yourself and your time!  We have lots of volunteer opportunities.

  • Work at the circulation desk.  A opportunity for those who enjoy the public and are comfortable with computers.
  • Help out behind-the-scenes, shelving books, covering new books, processing newsletters and other mailings.
  • Put together a program.  Plan an activity for the Children’s Story Hour, or organize a program on a topic that interest you.
  • Serve on the Library Board of Directors or one of the Committees.  You will join a hard-working and fun group of people who really care about Vose Library and the Town of Union.
  • Offer to serve on Library Boards and Committees.

OPERATING FUND

Vose Library operates on an annual budget which is funded from three sources; a trust of which the Library is a beneficiary, income from our portfolio, and support from the Town of Union.  The opportunities to enrich the basic budget are endless!  Here is how you can help your library better serve the citizens of Union:

  • Make a cash donation at any time to Vose Library, P. O. Box 550, Union ME 04862.  If you wish, your gift can be designated for a particular purpose, such as children’s books or programs.  All donations are tax deductible and donors receive an acknowledgment which can be used for tax purposes.
  • Make a donation of equipment. The Library Director can tell you about our computer and technical equipment needs.
  • Sponsor the purchase of a book or audio book.
  • Pass on your gently read books. Donated books can be used in several ways; added to the collection, set aside for the Book Sale, or (if it is a book of special interest or value) sold on e-Bay and the proceeds used to benefit the Library.

FRIENDS OF VOSE LIBRARY

Join the Friends of Vose LibraryFriends of Vose Library undertakes two major Fund-raising events on Union Common each year: the Plant sale in late May/early June, and the Book Sale on the second Saturday of August.  Proceeds from these sales benefit the New Building Fund, but are also used for special purchases to enhance library operations.  Vose Library is indebted to the Friends for many years of support and encouragement.
